TournReg Service Discontinuation Frequently Asked Questions

  • When will TournReg service shut down?

    TournReg Admin

TournReg service will shut down August 1, 2015. Any tournament event that starts and ends before this date will still be allowed to use the TournReg service. For example, if your tournament event occurs July 15, 2015, your online registration system will be developed and live up to three months prior and data accessible up to and following your event. Any tournament event that takes place (start date) after July 31, 2015 (online registration live April 2014), must consider another online registration solution.

  • What about IGBO Mid-Year 2014 (Jacksonville) and IGBO Annual 2015 (Omaha)?

    TournReg Admin

Online registration via TournReg is guaranteed and committed  for these respective events with all current services and processes intact.

  • What about regional tournaments currently using TournReg?

    TournReg Admin

Online registration via TournReg is guaranteed and committed for these respective events up to August 1, 2015. Simply put, you have one more year of my service before you need to prepare for an alternate online registration process.

  • What about IGBO Mid-Year 2015 (Pittsburgh)?

    TournReg Admin

This event should plan now to host their own online registration process.

  • What about DFW Open 2015 (Non-IGBO Tournament)?

    TournReg Admin

This May 2015 event should plan now to host their own online registration process next year.  This is one exception in which I will not commit to their event next year. A separate notice will be sent to this group explaining this exception so they can plan accordingly.

  • Can an IGBO Member Tournament NOT CURRENTLY using TournReg request to use TournReg in the next year before discontinuation of service?

    TournReg Admin

No. Effective today, June 4, I am no longer taking “new” requests to set up online registration sites. If your tournament used my system in the past, yes, I will create an online registration site for you in the upcoming year (up to August 1, 2015).  Two new tournaments just voted in (Prairie Plow and GO-BOT) are committed and will be supported for the upcoming year by TournReg.

  • If we paid you, would you continue developing our tournament’s online registration system?

    TournReg Admin

No for two reasons: 1) Fee-based development process produces even more administrative work, must be fair and equal to all tournaments, and requires tax implications. 2) The discontinuation of service is needed so I can rest and enjoy life!

  • Will you give us the TournReg code and database schema so we can write our own registration form?

    TournReg Admin

No for two reasons: 1) The code is my 9-year design, my logic, and frankly my personal property. It Is not open source. This is why I allowed folks to use it for free. As a free service, I am not obligated to provide delivered code. If the service was fee-based for usage, I would be required under certain service agreement terms to provide a delivered code/product to you. 2) The current web form code uses an old technology (Adobe ColdFusion) that is also discontinued for the most part. However, as with any web site page, web-savvy HTML developers can simply open the TournReg form in any web browser and select View Source to grab the HTML code. Also, you have a year from now to look at the existing TournReg system, email notifications, and admin console to plan your own system.

  • I thought TournReg was an entitled, IGBO perk for Member Tournaments. How is IGBO involved in TournReg?

    TournReg Admin

Many think TournReg service is IGBO-sponsored and IGBO-managed when in fact it is not. TournReg is simply one person (me) “helping” fellow IGBO member tournaments succeed using online technology to streamline their registration process and data needs. The IGBO board has never dictated or governed the TournReg service and development process. I worked directly with individual tournament directors on each individual online registration site.

  • Would you reconsider this discontinuation?

    TournReg Admin

No. This decision does not come lightly. I have been examining this discontinuation of service for several months now. I want to be as fair as possible to those tournaments that have supported me and my service over the past 9 years. This is why I am giving a year’s notice and hopefully allowing a smooth transition.
